[update] TempeHiker reported the graffiti at Optimist and Gaicki Parks to Mark Richwine, Manager, of the Tempe Parks and Recreation Department at around 1:00pm on 8 June 2006. At about 6:30am the next day, TempeHiker received the following email message. Thank you for promptly reporting the graffiti at Optimist and Gaicki Parks. Our team painted over both sites this morning and I have requested extra patrols from the Park Rangers in both areas. Please feel free to contact me directly if you observe any further graffiti in the parks or have any other concerns.Excellent job city of Tempe!
Two days ago we found this nasty graffiti at Gaicki Park. Today, TempeHiker decided to return to the park to see if the graffiti had been removed.
First we head to Optimist Park.
Graffiti that was found on this wall was cleaned and the graffiti on these utility boxes was semi-cleaned.
New graffiti was found this trash bin. The graffiti was reported to the phone number found on the trash bin.
The three picnic tables at south Optimist Park were clean, but three of the five picnic tables at north Optimist Park had graffiti. This graffiti was reported to Mark Richwine, Manager, of the Tempe Parks and Recreation Department.
North Optimist Park is located at Cornell and Kenwood. Upon leaving the park we found graffiti on this crime prevention sign and an alley wall across from the park had this face graffiti.
We are heading west to Gaicki Park using this landscape alley walkway. The following are pictures of graffiti found along the way.
- light pole {new from two days ago; three poles now have graffiti}
- utility box {more graffiti added from two days ago}
- utility box {was graffiti free two days ago}
- utility box {was graffiti free two days ago}
- utility box {was graffiti free two days ago}
We are getting ready to cross Los Feliz continuing west to Gaicki Park.
- utility box {was graffiti free two days ago}
- broken mirror {was not broken two days ago}
The west end of the landscaped alley walkway is at McClintock.
We are at Gaicki Park. {sign} {view} The nasty graffiti found two days earlier was gone. {picture} But, graffiti was found on picnic table and on the park's structure. Gaicki Park is located near the corner of McClintock and Cornell. The graffiti found at Gaicki Park was reported to Mark Richwine, Manager, of the Tempe Parks and Recreation Department.
We walked north on McClintock to Baseline. Graffiti was found on this business sign and on this litter can.
We stopped at Tempe Fire Station #3 {flags} to warn the firemen that Gaicki Park is under a graffiti attack. Upon leaving the fire station we graffiti on this utility box located adjacent to Fire Station #3. [Note: the fireman I spoke to didn't seem overly concerned about what was going on at Gaicki Park even though Gaicki was a fireman.]
We returned home heading west on Baseline to Price Road.
- traffic light graffiti {at Country Club Way}
- utililty box graffiti
- light pole graffiti
This graffiti, located south of Baseline Road on southbound Price Road, has been on the Loop 101 wall for a long time. The wall has two other spots with graffiti and they too have been there a long time. I suspect it is ADOT's responsibility to clean this graffiti.
AzLitter.org is in the process of calling it quits.
