San Tan Mountain Regional Park is located about 35 miles from downtown Tempe in Arizona.
There is a Veterans Memorial at the park's entrance. {plaques}
The park has three trails and on this visit we did a loop using the Goldmine trail and Moonlight trails.
The Goldmine trail goes along the base of Goldmine Mountain. A spur can be used to climb the mountain, but the trail was not well defined and we only went part way up.
Continuing on the Goldmine trail, we noticed this saddle and decided to get views from the other side of the mountain. {going up}
- Superstitions in distance ... rocky top
- Valley of the Sun ... another view
- Valley of the Sun ... another view
The following pictures were taken while returning to the Goldmine trail.
- mountain edge
- rocks ... rocks ... rocks
The following pictures were taken near the end of the Goldmine trail.
We returned to the parking lot using the Moonlight trail.
- looking up a saguaro
- Moonlight trail
- Sonoran desert view ... another view
- healthy saguaro ... dead saguaro
The Goldmine trail was 2.5 miles in length and the Moonlight trail was 1.2 miles long. { trail signs} We did not hike the San Tan trail on this visit.
