Happy Father's Day

Father's Day is the 3rd Sunday of June

"One father is more than a hundred Schoolmasters." -- George Herbert, Outlandish Proverbs, 1640

"Never raise your hand to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected." -- Red Buttons

"My father considered a walk among the mountains [corn fields] as the equivalent of churchgoing." -- Aldous Huxley

I extend a huge THANKS to my dad--Truman Thurman--who lives in Joliet, Illinois. Truman was a good dad, but I have always called him Truman and he never gets a Happy Father's Day card from me. I was lucky that Truman took me out into corn fields when I was a kid; it was torture for me back then, but I have since learned that those trips were precious.

I'm a dad and father of two young adults--Bree and Tyler--both of whom were born during the early 1980s in Columbus, Ohio. I've enjoyed being a dad, but I'm not sure I have been a good father. Who knows? Bottom line: Being a parent is not easy and I was lucky that both Bree and Tyler have been such good kids.

I became a grandpa during July of 2009. We have enjoyed having Brenna and Hayden in our lives.
