Happy Father's Day

Father's Day is the 3rd Sunday of June

[update::2013.06.16] I turned 56 a couple of weeks ago and my dad turns 86 in a few days.

Journey through the past...

Truman to Jerry: I need to go see a man about a dog.
   Jerry: Boring!

If I was in Joliet today...

Truman to Gerald: I need to go see a man about a dog.
   Gerald: Yes!

"One father is more than a hundred Schoolmasters." -- George Herbert, Outlandish Proverbs, 1640

"Never raise your hand to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected." -- Red Buttons

"My father considered a walk among the mountains [corn fields] as the equivalent of church going." -- Aldous Huxley

I extend a huge THANKS to my dad--Truman Thurman--who lives in Joliet, Illinois. Truman was a good dad, but I have always called him Truman and he never gets a Happy Father's Day card from me. I was lucky that Truman took me out into corn fields when I was a kid; it was torture for me back then, but I have since learned that those trips were precious.

I'm a dad and father of Bree and Tyler. My kids were born during the early 1980s in Columbus, Ohio. I've enjoyed being a dad, but I'm not sure I have been a good father. Who knows? Bottom line: Being a parent is not easy and I was lucky that both Bree and Tyler have been such good kids.

I became a grandpa during July of 2009. We have enjoyed having Brenna and Hayden in our lives.

I typed this on Father's Day 2012 and I'm happy to report that my dad is alive and kicking. I'm a lucky man to be able to pick up the phone and give him a call.

Truman died at the age of 89 during the summer of 2016. Truman's Collection of Advertising Stuff is being posted to Facebook.
