20 July 01969... I was 12 years of age and walking on the moon meant nothing to me. In the summer of '69 I was between 6th and 7th grades and my sole focus was playing. Play, play, play and then play some more.
I gave my parents a quick call today (02009.07.20) to see if they had any memories of this day 40 years ago. My mother had the TV on and she watched Armstrong set foot on the moon. My dad, who always went to bed early, was in bed because it was approximately 9:56pm CDT on a Sunday night and he had to go to work the next morning. Both of parents said that we got our first color TV during the winter of 01969.
I gave my sister a quick call today to see if she had any memories of this day 40 years ago. She remembered watching it on TV. My sister said C.R. (her husband and my brother-in-law) was working and that he called every few minutes to see what was happening.
My sister watched the moon walk on a color TV and she said our parents purchased their first color TV in 01967 (not 01969); therefore, if I was watching TV when Neil Armstrong said "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind," then I was watching the moon walk in color.
