BARS::Student Submitted Road Signs from Columbus, Ohio

These road signs are in Columbus, Ohio.

The picture of these road signs was taken by LindsayB and she emailed it (along with six other road sign pictures from Ohio) to MathBabbler on 9 April 2009. LindsayB was a MAT122 (intermediate algebra) student at SCC during the fall 2008 semester. During that semester, LindsayB submitted road sign pictures from Hawaii and Yuma AZ.

The road signs say...

   +-------+ +------------+ +-----------+
   | Speed | | Exit 5A | | Exit 5B |
   | Limit | | I-71 South | | US Hwy-40 |
   | 55 | | Cincinnati | | Broad St |
   +-------+ | Exit Only | | Exit Only |
             +------------+ +-----------+
   +------------+ +------------+ +------------+
   | Exit 5C | | I-670 East | | Exit 4C |
   | I-71 North | | Airport | | OH Hwy-3 |
   | Cleveland | +------------+ | Cleveland |
   | Exit Only | | Ave |
   +------------+ | Exit Only |
                                 +------------+
   the numbers are: 55 5 71 5 40 5 71 670 4 3

   the math is: 670 / (sqrt(71 + 71 + 5 - 3) + 55) / 5 * 5 * 4 = 40

   rsPiEval: (sqrt(670-40-5)-3) / (sqrt(71+5+5)-sqrt(71-55)+sqrt(4)) = Pi
   * 22/7 approximates Pi (3.14) rounded to nearest hundredth

   observe...
        numerator: 670 - 40 - 5 = 625; sqrt(625) = 25; 25 - 3 = 22
      denominator: 71 + 5 + 5 = 81; sqrt(81) = 9
                    71 - 55 = 16; sqrt(16) = 4
                    sqrt(4) = 2
                    9 - 4 + 2 = 7

Many more equations are going to be found using the numbers found in
these road signs, but MathBabbler will find those equations further
on down the road (i.e. later).

OOPs math... When MathBabbler started working on this BARS, he copied (and used) only two of the three fives and he found two equations before realizing his error.

   the numbers are: 55 5 71 5 40 71 670 4 3

   the math is: 670 / (sqrt(71 + 71 + 5 - 3) + 55) - (40 / 5) = sqrt(4)

   more math: sqrt(670 / (sqrt(71 + 71 + 5 - 3) + 55) * 40) / 4 = 5

oops... the set of numbers should include another 5...
