First U.S. Face Transplant

The United States had its first face transplant. The operation took 23 hours and required "about" 77 square inches of tissue donated by a dead woman.

Dr. Maria Siemionow was the reconstructive surgeon in charge of the operation and she was quoted saying: "We need the face to face the world."

  1. There are 24 hours per day; therefore, the face transplate took _______% of one day.

  2. 12 inches = 1 foot; therefore, 77 square inches = __________ square feetcode>.

  3. Approximately 80% of the patient's face was replaced; therefore, the patient's face was approximately ____________ square inches.
