Alcatel-Lucent Sets Optical Transmission World Record

Alcatel-Lucent "successfully transmitted a world record 25.6 Terabits per second (Tb/s) of optical data over a single fiber strand, using 160 Wavelength-Division Multiplexed (WDM) channels - enough bandwidth to transmit the data from more 600 DVDs per second.

Alcatel-Lucent's transmission results "surpassed the previous transmission record of 14 Tb/s, established in September 2006."
