YouTube... Ma and Pa Kettle Math

Ma and Pa Kettle are convinced that 25 divided-by 5 equals 14.

Pa's math...

   5)25(1
    - 5 five goes into five 1 time
    ===
     20 five goes into 20 four times

   5)25(14
    - 5
    ===
     20 five goes into 20 four times
    -20
    ===
      0

   according to Pa Kettle, 25 / 5 equals 14

"I'll prove you using multiplication" that five times five is twenty-five...

	  5
	x 5
	===
	 25

Ma takes a turn doing math to show that fourteen times five is twenty-five...

     14
   x  5
   ====
     20 five times four is 20
   +  5      five times one is 5
   ====
     25

   according to Ma Kettle, 14 x 5 equals 20

"I'll prove to you by addition" that fourteen times five is not twenty-five...

     14
     14
     14
     14
   + 14
   ====

   begin by adding up the ones place...
   4 + 4 is 8, 8 + 4 is 12, 12 + 4 is 16, 12 + 8 is 20...

   Pa takes over and continues adding up the tens place...
   20 + 1 = 21, 21 + 1 = 22, 21 + 1 = 23, 23 + 1 = 24, 24 + 1 = 25

The following was a comment about the Ma and Pa Kettle video: "Abbott and Costello do a similar 'old math' routine based on the equation of 7 goes into 28, 13 times."

Exercises
  1. Do Ma and Pa Kettle math to prove 28 divided-by 7 equals 13.
