January 2007 CPI Up 0.2%, Core CPI Up 0.3%

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was up 0.2% in January 2007, compared to last month's 0.5%. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, was up 0.3%, compared to 0.2% last month.

The core-CPI is up 2.7% for the last year. The Federal Reserve's "comfort zone" is 2.5%.

Medical care prices rose 0.8%, the most in 16 years.
