Ikea To Charge For Plastic Bags

USA Today reported that Ikea is going to start charging for plastic bags and promote the use of re-usable bags. The monies raised will go to an environmental conservation group.

The information was issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

   "Americans discarded more than 4.4 million tons of 
    low- and high-density polyethylene bags, sacks, and 
    wraps in 2005, according to a report by the U.S. 
    Environmental Protection Agency. Only 5.2% of those 
    were recovered for recycling."

Ikea will charge 5 cents per plastic bag and they are reducing the cost of reusable bags from 99 cents to 59 cents.
