Writing About Litter is Worthless

Arizona Republic; Letter to the Editor; 26 November 2005
Title: "Make cleanup a ticket penalty"

JB from Mesa wrote a letter agreeing with a previously printed letter titled "Turning our Valley into a trash pit."

JB suggested that everytime somebody gets a traffic ticket, they also receive trash pickup duty. Good idea, but difficult to implement. A few years ago the Chandler Justice Community Court provided proof that such a program could work, but it takes time, money, and -- most importantly -- volunteers. We must always remember that people's safety are put at risk when they pickup litter along our highways; consequently, JB's idea will remain just that--an idea.

JB ended his letter exclaiming: "Trash your cars but not our highways!" AzLitter.org has learned that such exclamations are worthless.
